J&K COUNT SURPASSES 20K MARK

SRINAGAR: Covid-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) crossed the 20,000 mark on Friday. A total of 490 fresh infections and 12 deaths were reported in the Union Territory,

Now, the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir is 20,359. Most of the positive cases were reported from Kashmir, primarily from Srinagar. Of the 490 cases, 347 were reported from Kashmir and 143 from Jammu. Ten people succumbed to the injection in Kashmir while two deaths were reported in Jammu. Till date, 349 covid19 deaths have been reported in Kashmir and 28 in Jammu.

As per the official figures, 128 cases were reported in Srinagar. Srinagar has so far reported 4,786 cases, of which 2,711 are active. A total of 120 people have lost their lives.

375 RECOVERIES

Officials said that 375 patients had recovered, taking the number of recovered patients to 12,217. So far 3,68,806 people have been enlisted for observatio­n across the UT. The government has performed 6,37,515 tests in 20 districts of J&K.

At present, there are 7,765 active cases in J&K, of which 5,852 are in Kashmir and 1,913 in Jammu.

DOCTORS ASK PEOPLE TO AVOID UNNECESSAR­Y GATHERINGS ON EID

Doctors have asked people to take extra precaution­s, especially following Eid and any relaxation in Sops can trigger a spike in Covid-19 cases.

Dr Javaid Malik, professor and head of department chest medicine department, SKIMS has asked people to avoid unnecessar­y gathering on Eid.

“I would like to request and urge people to avoid gatherings, regardless of their nature. This can potentiall­y result in acute surge in Covid-19 cases after Eid,” said Malik, who is also a member of an apex committee that advises the government.
