Bajwa demands probe by high court judge into hooch tragedy
CHANDIGARH: Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa on Saturday said that the tragic incident of death of people due to hooch in Tarn Taran, Amritsar and Gurdaspur symbolises growing “bureaucrat-police-liquor mafia nexus” in state.
In a statement issued here, the MP said that failures of the administration can be corrected by taking proactive steps such as requesting the chief justice of the Punjab and Haryana high court to appoint a sitting judge to probe the liquor mafia and submit a report to the state government in a time-bound manner.
He requested the state government to formulate rules so that such tragedies can be avoided in future, and officers under whose jurisdiction innocent lives were lost are held accountable for dereliction of duty.
He suggested that the SSP of the district should be transferred immediately and barred from a field posting or promotion for a year.
“The DSP should be transferred immediately and barred from a field posting or promotion for two years and the SHO should be transferred immediately and barred from a field posting or promotion for three years,” Bajwa
added.
