J&K LOGS 11 DEATHS, 613 FRESH CASES

SRINAGAR:: Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday recorded 11 deaths and 613 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of positive cases in the Union territory to 20,972, officials said.

Eleven more people have succumbed to the disease. With this, the death toll has risen to 388.

Of the new cases, 468 were reported from Kashmir and 145 from Jammu. There are now 7,713 active cases in the UT, while 12,871 patients have recovered, the officials said.

The cases detected on Saturday include 64 people who had returned to the union territory recently. Srinagar district recorded the highest of fresh cases at 305, followed by 58 in Pulwama district. South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has reported 58 fresh cases followed by 23 and 22 cases in Baramulla and Bandipore district respective­ly.

Most active cases and deaths have been reported in Kashmir so far. On Saturday, 654 people were discharged.

“We are expecting surge in patients as there has been relaxation of norms across the UT. The situation is under control, however, more cases could become troublesom­e for the already overburden­ed healthcare system, especially Kashmir,” said a senior doctor posted at Srinagar Medical College.
