Punjab logs 18 deaths, 792 new Covid cases

State’s death toll has risen to 423 and infection count to 17,853

OF THE 18 FATALITIES, 8 PEOPLE SUCCUMBED TO THE VIRUSE IN LUDHIANA DISTRICT, WHERE 78 TESTED POSITIVE ON SUNDAY

LUDHIANA/AMRITSAR/PATIALA/ SANGRUR/BATHINDA: Punjab on Sunday reported 18 deaths and 792 coronaviru­s cases, taking the positive patients’ tally to 17,853 and the death toll to 423.

Eight people died while 78 tested positive for the virus in Ludhiana district on Sunday. The district has reported 105 deaths so far.

Four Covid-19 patients from Amritsar district succumbed to the virus at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Besides, the district reported 55 fresh cases. Meanwhile, 30 people from Gurdaspur districts contracted the virus.

In the biggest surge in Covid-19 cases, Mohali district on Sunday recorded 45 fresh infections besides two virus-related fatalities, taking the toll to 17 in the district.

Three persons have died, while 88 tested positive for coronaviru­s in Patiala district. Of the positive cases, 33 are from Patiala city, 14 each from Nabha and Rajpura, eight from Samana and 19 from different villages across the district.

A total 253 persons were tested positive for coronaviru­s from seven districts of south Malwa on Sunday. Bathinda reported 98 cases, the highest in the region. In Moga, 91 persons were found positive, the highest single-day spike from the district. In Ferozepur, 26 people were tested positive for coronaviru­s whereas 16 residents of Mansa were tested positive. Fourteen people in Faridkot, including two doctors, were tested positive whereas number of positive patients was six on Sunday. Besides, two persons were also found positive in Muktsar district.

In another major spike, Jalandhar reported 111 positive cases. Meanwhile, eight persons tested positive for Covid-19 in Kapurthala district, seven in Hoshiarpur and four in SBS Nagar.

Forty fresh cases were reported in Sangrur district. Of these, 11 are from Longowal block, 8 from Bhawanigar­h, 6 from Sangrur, 5 from Kauhrian, 4 from Fatehgarh Panjgrain, 2 from Sherpur, one each from

Dhuri, Moonak, Amargarh and Sunam blocks.

Moga’s five-year-old Tiktok star, Noorpreet Kaur, her father and one of the team members were among persons tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.
