HASTEN PEOPLE’S RULE IN J&K

-

Apropos the editorial, ‘Omar Abdullah opens the door’ (July 28), Abdullah’s assertion not to ‘fight an election to lead a disempowered assembly’ will have farreaching consequences. Surely, the assembly cannot legislate to negate the abrogation of Article 370, which gave special status to special status to Jammu and Kashmir. The poll arena is open and voluntary. It is imperative that people’s rule is restored, whether an Abdullah chooses to contest or not. However, we must beware of monopolist dynasts and not undo the transformation achieved over the last year.
