Woman dies of shock after hubby’s death, kids have nowhere to go
TARN TARAN : Four siblings, aged between 5 and 13, at Tarn Taran’s Gokapura locality were orphaned as their mother died of shock soon after their father’s death due consumption of hooch on Saturday.
The cremation of Sukhdev Singh (35), who worked as a rickshaw-puller, and his wife Jyoti (32) was conducted the same day.
The couple is survived by four children —Karanbir Singh (13), a class 6 student, Gurpreet Singh (11), who studies in class, Arshpreet Singh (9), a class 3 student and Sandeep Singh (5).
Staring at an uncertain future, the children were inconsolable.
Sukhdev’s family lived in a rented house. Now, they are living with their uncle Sarwan Singh (Sukhdev’s brother) who also lives in a rented room with his wife and four children.
Sarwan said, “On Friday night, my brother consumed illicit liquor that he purchased from Pandoor Goli village which has reported seven deaths. Then he came home and slept. In the midnight, Sukhdev woke up

and complained of pain in his stomach and feeling of uneasiness. He asked his wife and kids to arrange some painkillers but they could not.”
He further said, “He somehow slept but didn’t wake up in the morning. When his wife saw him dead, she fell unconscious. She also passed away after a while.”
He said, “The children are asking for their parents. Since I am a labourer, it is not possible for me to feed eight children.”
Karanbir, the eldest of the four siblings, said, “Our parents wanted us to study hard. Now, who will help us for our further study? We don’t know what will happen to us now.”
