590 fresh cases in J&K

SRINAGAR:: Jammu and Kashmir on Monday recorded 11 deaths and 590 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of positive cases in the Union territory to 22,006, officials said.

The total death toll has reached 407 in 131 days after first few fatalities were reported on March 26. Active cases in the UT stand at 7,576 after 905 more patients have been cured, taking the recovery rate to 63.76%. A government spokespers­on said 160 people were discharged in Jammu division and 745 in Kashmir. Of the total recoveries, 11,150 were cured in Kashmir while 2,882 in Jammu division.

Of the new cases, 433 are from Kashmir and 157 from Jammu division. Among these, 60 patients have a travel history. Of 22,006 total number of positive cases in J&K, 4,545 have been reported as travelers, a government spokespers­on said.

Officials said 11 more people have succumbed to the disease– nine in Kashmir and two in Jammu division. With this, the death toll in the UT has reached 407—377 fatalities in Kashmir and 30 in Jammu division till date. The highest single day spike of 17 deaths, since the pandemic spread, was recorded on July 30.

The death toll had crossed 300 mark on July 25, 122 days after the first fatality was reported on March 26.

“Srinagar is the worst affected district with 5,333 positive cases, including 180 fresh infections cases reported on Monday. Active cases in the district are 2,433 and 135 people have succumbed to the disease so far,” a spokesman said.
