Sameer Sharma found dead, suicide suspected; industry in shock
Actor Sameer Sharma, who has been part of a number of TV shows since 2004, such as Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, Jyoti, Left Right Left, Woh Rehne Waali Mehlon Ki and the recent, Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke, was found dead at his Mumbai residence, police said on Thursday. The actor is reported to have died by suicide.
Actor Sidharth Malhotra shared condolences on social media as Sharma had worked with him in Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) and Ittefaq (2017). He shared a picture of Sharma on Instagram and wrote, “Really sad and unfortunate #Ripsameersharma.” Actor Varun Dhawan too shared a picture of Sharma on Instagram and wrote “#Ripsameersharma” with a folded hands emoji.
Co-star and close friend, actor Avinash Sachdev, was in shock. He says, “We knew each other since 2013, when we did Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? Ek Baar Phir. Later, we worked in Ayushman Bhava in 2017. We kept in touch all through the lockdown. He was as frustrated about staying at home as everyone else. I don’t think he was under financial stress, had depression, work related or personal issues. He

was a happy-go-lucky person, never took any stress and enjoyed life. I don’t know why this happened. We spoke on July 22 and even discussed Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and he said, ‘Suicide can never be an option’. In fact, he took a break from acting and yet had returned with good roles on television.”
Sanjeev Seth, who was Sharma’s co-star in Yeh Rishtey..., remembers him as a gentle person. “I met him on the sets of our show. One could never have guessed he would take such an extreme step. We knew he was divorced and lived alone in the city. We weren’t in touch in the last few
months due to the lockdown. This news is shocking for me and everyone in the unit,” he says.
Actor Shrenu Parikh, who co-starred with Sharma in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? Ek Baar Phir, says she has been recalling memories of working with him since she heard the news. She says,“sadly, we lost touch after the show ended but he was a gem of a person. I don’t know what happened to him and why he took this step. I have been talking to people from the unit and we are all shocked to hear about it. We all had a great time working on the show together.”
