SAD demands CVC inquiry into money trail of liquor mafia
CHANDIGARH : The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Sunday held a protest march to the Raj Bhawan and courted arrest for the third consecutive day. Former minister Hira Singh Gabria led the protest march of party workers from Ludhiana. Police stopped them short of the Raj Bhawan.
“We want to meet Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore to press for a central vigilance commission probe (CVC) probe into the charges of interim Congress president Sonia Gandhi and the party high command receiving Rs 2,000 crore from the liquor and sand mafias to operate at will in Punjab,” Gabria alleged.
He added that a CVC probe was needed to trace the trail of transfer of ill-gotten money from Punjab to Delhi and urged the governor to make this recommendation to the Centre immediately. He also urged the governor to recommend dismissal of the Capt Amarinder Singh led Congress government in the state, order a high court or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the illicit liquor trade.
