WILL INTENSIFY EFFORTS TO SAVE WATER: MINISTER

CHANDIGARH: Punjab water resources minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria on Sunday said that the Punjab Water Regulation and Developmen­t Authority (PWRDA) will help solve the growing groundwate­r depletion problem in the state. Sarkaria said that the authority has been mandated to issue orders and guidelines for efficient use of water and to minimise wastage or misuse of water and to promote recycling and reuse of water. Karan Avtar Singh, former chief secretary of Punjab, has been appointed the chairman of the authority while Surinder Singh Kukal and Sushil Gupta are its members.
