GUL PANAG’S REMARKS ABOUT FIGHTER PILOTS APPALLING, SHOWS IGNORANCE

It was appalling to read actor Gul Panag’s views, ‘A commercial pilot has a far greater responsibility than a fighter pilot’ (HT, August 10). The comparison is uncalled for and born out of ignorance. Just because Panag holds a flying licence and her husband is a commercial pilot does not give her authority to undermine the institution of fighter pilots. They are the guardian of the nation’s air borders and have an aura and accountability of different dimensions altogether. Panag should stick to her mandate and not comment on fighter pilots. Her comments are a classic case of the dictum: Eyes can’t see what the mind does not know.
