UNBEATEN, STERLING KNOCK OF 84
Apropos ‘Woakes, Buttler propel England to win over Pakistan’(ht, August 9), England won the first Test against Pakistan at Old Trafford by three wickets. The Test was an edge-of-the-seat affair as England chased down a target of 277 after reeling at 117 for 5 at one stage. But Chris Woakes and Jos Buttler rose to the occasion hitting 84 and 75, respectively. They went into one-day mode to pepper boundaries at will. By the time their 139-run partnership was snapped, England needed 21 runs to win. It revived Pakistan’s hopes only to be dashed by Woakes, who stayed calm and steered his side to 1-0 up in the three-match series. He deserves accolades for his unbeaten and sterling knock of 84.
