Spike continues, 36 deaths, 1,035 new cases in Punjab

Ludhiana/jalandhar/sangrur/ Patiala/amritsar Punjab’s Covid spread is getting scarier by the day as 36 deaths and 1,035 infections were recorded on Thursday. With this, the state’s patient tally has gone up to 27,936, while 706 people have succumbed to the coronaviru­s to date. The number of people who have recovered from the disease stands at 17,839.

Ludhiana district added the maximum number to the Thursday Covid tally with 13 deaths and 181 infections.

As many as 119 deaths have been reported in the district in the past 13 days. Prominent among those who tested positive on Thursday was CMD of Avon Cycles Limited Omkar Singh Pahwa.

DERA HEAD ARRESTED

Head of a dera was among three people arrested at Khanpur Dehlon village of Ludhiana for holding health workers hostage and thrashing them. The police rescued the health workers.

Five Covid-19 patients, four from Amritsar and one from Tarn Taran districts, succumbed to the virus in local hospitals on Thursday. Sixty fresh infections were recorded in Amritsar district, 34 in Gurdaspur and six in Tarn Taran districts.

In Jalandhar district, four Covid patients died while 149 new cases were reported. Three deaths were reported from Sangrur, besides the two fresh cases. Barnala district added 11patients on Thursday. Three residents of Kapurthala district died of Covid-19 while 15 others tested positive on Thursday.

PATIALA SSP INFECTED

Patiala’ senior superinten­dent of police Vikramjeet Singh Duggal was among the 155 people who tested positive for coronaviru­s in the district on Thursday.

In Ferozepur istrict, 70 new infections were detected. In Bathinda, 24 people tested positive, while 20 cases were reported from Muktsar, nine from Mansa and eight from Fazilka. Thirtysix people tested positive for Covid-19 in Faridkot district on Thursday and Moga added 20 patients.
