Govt to hold assembly session before Sept 3
CHANDIGARH: Amid rising Covid-19 cases in the state, the Punjab government is planning to hold the monsoon session of the state assembly before September 3.
Assembly speaker Rana KP Singh said he received a letter from the state government regarding holding of the legislature sitting before September 3 to comply with the constitutional requirement. The budget session was held in February-march 2020 and Article 174 of the Constitution mandates that there should not be a gap of more than six months between two sessions.
“We are making arrangements to hold the session in consonance with the guidelines issued by the Centre in view of the coronavirus pandemic. The seating arrangements have also been finalized with a proper plan to follow the physical distance protocol,” he said. The speaker also held a meeting with officials of health department to seek “professional advice” on precautions needed with regard to Covid-19.
