State reports 25 Covid-19 deaths, 1,077 fresh cases

CHANDIGARH: Punjab reported 25 more coronaviru­s-related deaths pushing the toll to 731. The state also witnessed a highest single-day spike of 1,077 cases, taking the infection tally to 29,013, according to the media bulletin released by the state government.

Seven coronaviru­s patients died in Ludhiana, four each in Sangrur and Patiala, three in Jalandhar, two each in Ferozepur and Mohali, and one each in Amritsar, Barnala and Hoshiarpur, according to the medical bulletin.

LUDHIANA LEADS DAY’S TALLY

Among districts which reported the new cases are Ludhiana (296), Patiala (135), Jalandhar (134), Pathankot (62), Bathinda (60), Mohali (53), Kapurthala (38), Amritsar (36) and Gurdaspur (35), it said.

A total of 489 coronaviru­s patients were discharged after recovering from the infection. So far, 18,328 people have been cured of the infection.

There are 9,954 active COVID-19 cases in the state, according to the bulletin. Ludhiana has a total of 6,176 patients of which 1,807 are active cases. Among those who tested positive in Ludhiana on Friday are 12 undertrial­s, five cops, five pregnant women, and three health workers and 81 contacts of positive patients.

Jalandhar district has reported 3,751 positive cases and 98 deaths so far. Twelve people are on ventilator.

INFECTED ASI DIES IN JALANDHAR HOSPITAL

In Kapurthala, ASI posted at city police died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Jalandhar. He had tested positive a few days back. Of the positive cases in Patiala district, 63 are from Patiala city, eight from Samana, 24 from Nabha, 16 from Rajpura and 19 are from various villages.
