A PIECE OF A SMALL IRON ROD HAD BEEN SHARPENED TO PRY OPEN BARRACK’S WALL; MADE A ROPE USING THEIR BLANKETS

FARIDKOT:A jailbreak attempt by three inmates was foiled in a Faridkot prison on Saturday, officials said.

The accused inmates were identified as Surjit Singh (undertrial in drug case) of Sirsa in Haryana, Navneet Kumar (undertrial in snatching case) of Moga and Vakeel Singh (convict in drug case) of Fazilka.

Faridkot Modern jail superintendent Manjit Singh Tiwana said they got a tip-off that three were attempting to escape. “I led a raid to the jail’s H1 barrack where we found four bricks of the wall removed. They had also made a rope using their blankets. A piece of a small iron rod, which had been sharpened to pry open the barrack’s wall was also recovered from them,” he said.

It is learnt that more than 20 persons are lodged in the barrack where the jailbreak attempt was made but the jail authorities have accused only three of trying to escape.

“The three have confessed that they had started breaking the wall a couple of days ago. We will file a complaint at the Faridkot city police station to lodge an FIR after further interrogating them,” Tiwana added.
