Bermuda shorts make a comeback

- Manish Mishra

The very mention of Bermuda shorts brings to mind a carefree summer day on the beach. The recently unveiled Spring Summer ’21 collections captured this spirit by sending out a blizzard of Bermuda shorts, seen in the look books of Casablanca,

MSGM, Zegna, Gucci and Dolce & Gabbana. All one needs is a flowy Cuban collared shirt, a pair of sunglasses, a fedora hat and open-toe footwear to conjure one’s Capri holiday fantasy. Stylist Isha Bhansali says, “The Bermuda shorts give a decent leg coverage and they are a little more formal than activewear, short shorts. Either layer them with a blazer or opt for a twinset, which elongates the silhouette.” Stylist Akshay Tyagi attributes it to the resurgence of the 90s-inspired surfer style. “I liked Jacquemus’ wellproportionate take on Bermudas. Team them with either an open collar shirt or a tucked in T-shirt, but avoid close-toe shoes with the look. Instead, opt for dad sandals,

” says Tyagi.

Global pop icons such as Justin Beiber and actors back home, such as Shahid Kapoor, have put Bermudas on the men’s style radar by opting for them often as they run errands. Stylist Divyak D’souza says, “Bermuda shorts have a laidback vibe and belong in a casual, playful environment like a beach or a brunch. For a casual look, opt for a roomy, sportier version, or style a pair of tailored Bermudas with blazers to radiate that slightly dressy vibe.”
