J&K sees 14 deaths, 701 fresh infections

ACTIVE CASES STAND AT 7,544; ALSO, 389 MORE PEOPLE WERE CURED, TAKING OVERALL RECOVERIES TO 25,594

Srinagar/jammu Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday recorded 14 deaths and 701 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of positive cases in the Union territory to 33,776.

Also, 389 more people were cured and discharged from various hospitals, taking overall recoveries to 25,594 which account for 75.7 % recovery rate. Active cases stand at 7,544.

A government spokespers­on said 79 people were discharged in Jammu division and 310 in Kashmir. Of the total, 19,818 were cured in Kashmir while 5,776 in Jammu division. The total number of tests conducted in the UT have reached 8,88,127.Officials said 14 more people have succumbed to the disease—11 in Kashmir and three in Jammu division. The death toll in the UT has risen to 638.

MORTALITY RATE SIMILAR AMONG MEN AND WOMEN IN KASHMIR

Health experts in Kashmir have stated that though the Covid-19 apparently may appear more lethal among men as compared to women, it has caused deaths at the same rate among men and women in the Valley.

Dr Rouf Hussain Rather, in-charge data analysis section at divisional Covid-19 Control Room , said of 563 deaths, 368 were men out of 16,796 positive cases (in males) and 195 women out of 8,191 cases (in females).the mortality rate is 2.1 % among men and 2.3% among women.
