DEMAND REPEAL OF THREE ORDINANCES ISSUED BY THE CENTRE AND THE WITHDRAWAL OF THE ELECTRICITY (AMENDMENT) BILL

SANGRUR: Farmers, under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU, Ugrahan), ended their fiveday protests against three ordinances in 13 districts of the state on Saturday. The protesters, however, declared that a permanent protest will be held in Patiala and Badal village from September 15-20 to oppose ‘antifarmer ordinances’.

State president of the farmer outfit Joginder Singh Ugrahan and general secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan, in a joint statement, said farmers held protests in 600-odd villages of 13 districts, opposing the entry of local MLAS and MPS in villages.

Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan demanded the repeal of three ordinances issued by the Central government and the withdrawal of the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020.

Kokri Kalan said the state government should stop imposing Section 144 on protests of farmers and the expert committee led by former deputy chairman of planning commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia should be dissolved.

“A permanent protest will be held at the PUDA Ground, Patiala, and Badal village against the central and Punjab government from September 15,” the statement reads.
