49% BDS SEATS VACANT, STRAY COUNSELLIN­G FROM TOMORROW

FARIDKOT: With 561 (49%) BDS seats vacant after four rounds of counsellin­g across 11 dental colleges, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), Faridkot, the nodal agency, will hold an extended stray vacancy round of counsellin­g from January 18 (Monday). The provisiona­l merit list would be displayed on January 27 and a physical round of counsellin­g would be conducted on January 28.

The Dental Council of India has already announced the extension of last date for admission to BDS courses in all colleges for academic session 2020-21 to January 30.

Fifteen dental colleges, including two government dental colleges in the state, offer 1,140 BDS seats, but only 579 BDS seats were taken. Only four colleges, Baba Jaswant Singh Dental College and Christian Dental College both at Ludhiana, and government dental colleges at Amritsar and Patiala, were able to fill up all their seats.

Of 100 dental sciences seats each, 89 seats are vacant in Desh Bhagat Dental College, Gobindgarh; 75 in Genesis Dental College, Ferozepur; 66 seats in Rayat Bahra Dental College, Mohali; 61 seats in Sukhmani Dental College, Mohali; 56 seats in Dashmesh Dental College, Faridkot; 53 seats in Guru Nanak Dev Dental College, Sunam; 41 seats at Adesh Institute of Dental Sciences and Research, Bathinda; 38 seats at Shaheed Kartar Singh Sarabha Dental College, Ludhiana and 36 seats each at National Dental College, Dera Bassi and Luxmi Bai Dental College, Patiala.
