5HELDFOR ILLEGAL MINING IN SBS NAGAR, 11 TRACTORTROLLEYS SEIZED

JALANDHAR: Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar police arrested five persons for illegal mining in Rahon police and seized 11 tractor-trolleys, an excavator and a tipper. The accused have been are Jatinder Singh, Sukhreet Singh, Jasdev Singh and Nand Kumar, all of Ludhiana district, and Paramvir Singh of Fatehgarh Sahib. District mining officer Harjinder Singh said the accused had been found indulging in illegal mining in Sutlej river at Saidpur village. Investigating officer Gurbaksh Singh said a probe was underway.

AAP’S Cheema visits illegal mining sites

AAP leader of opposition in the state assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema, visited illegal mining sites in Ghanaur and Shambu areas of Patiala on Thursday. “The CM, his ministers and MLAS are responsible for all kinds of ‘mafias’ flourishing in Punjab. When people oppose mining mafia, police register false cases against them and lock them up,” claimed Cheema.
