SANGRUR/JALANDHAR/ SBS NAGAR: Hundreds of farmers from Punjab, who were returning to their villages till Thursday after participating in the Republic Day tractor parade in New Delhi, said their agitation against the Centre’s agriculture laws had been purged of the bad elements and now they were ready to fight for their cause with a renewed vigour.

“A large number of farmers from our village marched to Delhi in tractors. We will send more farmers there in a couple of days. The Delhi episode helped identify bad elements,” said Avtar Singh Taari, a farmer from Bhullar Heri village in Sangrur district, who returned from the Tikri border in the national capital.

Gobinder Singh, Sangrur block chief of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-ugrahan), said the real agitation will start now as miscreants were exposed after the Delhi episode and farmer unions are getting a huge response from villages and towns.

“Also, our union has decided to burn effigies of the central government in front of the district administration complexes across the state on February 1 to oppose black laws,” added Singh.

Gurjant Singh of Issi village said they went to Delhi with five tractors and all of them have returned. “But today, 10 more farmers from our village reached Delhi. There is no panic among farmers. We are fighting against the anti-farmer laws and will join the protests at the Delhi border whenever we get a call.”

Gurmeet Singh, a farm labourer from the same village, said, “When our villagers marched to Delhi, it was my duty to join them as these laws are more dangerous for farmhands.”

BKU (Rajewal) activist Amarjot Singh said, “We had sent more than 150 tractors from Jandiala, Pandori, Phulriwal and other villages in Jalandhar district for the parade. These tractors are returning but those already stationed at the Singhu border will stay there.

Jasbir Singh, a Kirti Kisan Union activist from SBS Nagar, said a total 500 tractors were taken by their members to Delhi for the parade and most of them were coming back.
