FARIDKOT: A day after a 37-yearold contractor allegedly shot his two children dead and left his wife critically injured before turning the gun on himself, police has booked Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring’s brother-in-law Dimpy Vinayak for abetment to suicide on Sunday.

A case has been registered under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complainant of deceased’s brother, who claimed that Dimpy refused to return money to his brother and also threatened him, after which he took the extreme step.

“My brothers and I are contractors and running business under two firms. We have foodgrain transportation contract of Gidderbaha truck union. Being brother-in-law of Gidderbaha MLA Raja Warring, Dimpy was involved in everything in the district and collects cut on his behalf.

He took Rs 1.2 crore from us during last and this season and also forcibly collected money of electricity contracts claiming it’s cut of Raja Warring. Following dealing with him, our relation with the MLA got sour and he also started demanding money separately,” he alleged.

“My brother asked Dimpy to return money on many occasions. First he made excuses, but later refused saying that they have political power. Because of this, my brother started staying upset. A couple of days ago, we met Dimpy and asked him to return money. Dimpy said he will not return the money and told my brother to commit suicide instead,” he said.

“On Saturday morning, I rushed to my brother’s room after hearing gunshots. My brother shot at his wife, his three-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son with his revolver before shooting himself around 4am. We took them to Faridkot medical college, where his daughter was declared brought dead, while his son died during treatment. My brother and his wife were referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana. He succumbed during treatment. The condition of his wife is critical,” he added.

I have full faith in law, says Raja Warring

“The matter is under investigation and what has led to the suicide needs to be probed. I am not aware of what is written in the alleged suicide note. I reiterate that I have full faith in law and the courts,” Warring said.

Senior superintendent of police Swarndeep Singh said a case has been registered and probe is underway.

Police have also registered a case against the deceased under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and Arms Act for killing his two kids and injuring wife

Police trying to shield Warring: Sukhbir Meanwhile, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Sunday charged senior Congress leaders with indulging in corruption. Referring to the registration of abetment to suicide case against the brother-inlaw of Warring, Sukhbir said the alleged suicide note explicitly details about extortion from businesspersons by the MLA and his close aides. “The Faridkot case is an open and shut case against Warring and his family member. But the police are trying to shield Warring,” he said. The SAD chief was in Bathinda on Sunday to campaign for his party candidates for the upcoming MC polls. Sukhbir said CM could not escape responsibility for corruption by leaders of the ruling party. He said election papers of nearly 500 of SAD candidates were rejected at the behest of the state government.
