6 of Jind family, driver killed as car hits tanker on Yamuna E-way

ROHTKAK/ AGRA : Seven people, including four from a family and two relatives, died in an accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district on Tuesday night when a car collided with a tanker, killing all occupants of the car, including the driver.

The victims, who were from Safidon tehsil, were identified as Manoj, 47; his wife Babita, 40; and his two sons aged 18 and 16. Two minor girls, aged 10 and 14 years— their relatives, and the driver, Rakesh, 39, of Jaipur were also killed, said a police official, who did not wish to be named. “The car with six passengers and a driver was moving towards Noida. The tanker was moving towards Agra from Noida and was on the other side of the divider,” said Sirish Chand, superinten­dent of police (rural), Mathura.

The car crashed into the tanker, which suddenly overturned to the other side of the divider, after one of its tyres reportedly burst, the SP said. The collision was so powerful that the car was crushed, killing all seven on the spot. Manoj, ran a poultry business, Babita was a homemaker and their son Abhay was pursuing a bachelor of arts course. They were on their way to a religious place in Mathura when the accident took place.

Manoj’s nephew Aneesh said they lived in a joint family setup with 15 members.

“Rakesh had been staying with us for 11 years. My uncle had called me before the accident took place and told me to park our other car outside the house so that Rakesh could return go to Jaipur at the earliest. He had said they will reach home by Tuesday night,” he said.
