Punjab left with 30,000 vaccine doses

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government on Sunday said that it is running short of Covid-19 vaccines. It is awaiting fresh stock from the Centre to continue with the inoculatio­n of 45+ population at vaccinatio­n centres across the state. The state, which could not start the vaccinatio­n for 18-45 years category from May 1, due to nonavailab­ility of direct supply from the Serum Institute of India (SII), is left with just 30,000 vaccinatio­n doses. Director, health, Dr GB Singh said there were hardly any vaccine doses left with the state and vaccinatio­n would be carried out at very few centres.. people, he had realised there was an extreme reluctance on the part of the general populace to get vaccinated.

Dhindsa and Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, who were expelled from the SAD for revolting against its leadership, are likely to announce their new political outfit on Monday. SAD (Taksali-akali) leader Karnail Singh Peermohamm­ad said, “It is a move to save Punjab from the clutches of the two traditiona­l parties which have been ruling over the state for decades turn by turn.” Dhindsa heads the SAD (Democratic) while Brahmpura is the president of SAD (Taksali). They had set up these outfits after their expulsion from the SAD.

Bar council of Punjab, Haryana seeks Rs 100 cr to fight covid-19 CHANDIGARH: The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has sought financial assistance of Rs 100 crore from the state government­s (Rs 50 crore each) to help young lawyers suffering due to covid-19. The council also plans to compensate lawyers who have been badly hit due to the limited functionin­g of courts amid the pandemic.

Punjab BJP leader Jagdish Sahni dead AMRITSAR: BJP leader and three-time legislator Jagdish Raj Sahni died of cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Amritsar on Sunday.

Sahni, 77, was diabetic. Sahni was elected to the state assembly from Batala seat in 1992, 1997 and 2007. In the 2007 elections, when Sahini won for the third time He was made the chief parliament­ary secretary during the SADBJP government.
