ONE GIRL URGES EXAMINER TO GIVE HER PASSING MARKS, ELSE HER FAMILY WOULD MARRY HER OFF; ANOTHER SAYS: ‘PLEASE FORGIVE MY SMALL ERRORS, I’M LIKE YOUR DAUGHTER’

ROHTAK: Examiners evaluating papers for the Board of School Education Haryana (BSEH) Class 10 and 12 board exams said they are coming across all kinds of bizarre explanations and desperate pleas from students begging not to be failed.

An examiner from Fatehabad said a girl student had requested him to pass her in Class 12, otherwise her parents will finalise her marriage.

“The girl wrote that many things are going wrong in her life and she is grief-stricken due to her family. Her father had apparently said pass the exam with 75% otherwise we will fix your marriage,” the examiner said.

“When I was in Class 10, a lecturer had visited our school and asked us about our goals. I told him that I want to join the

Indian Army but my efforts were not up to the mark. At that time, my friend had left me. My father, who is an alcoholic, and my stepmother used to harass me at home,” the girl had written.

As many as 6.68 lakh students were enrolled for the board exams. Of these, 3.78 lakh were enrolled for Class 10 and 2.90 lakh for Class 12. This year, the board witnessed a 19% dip in cheating cases with 3,602 cases of unfair means reported. As per board statistics, the number of cheating cases detected was 4,430 in 2019, and 5,048 in 2018. In 2017, the number was even higher at 5,265.

Last year, exams could not be conducted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and half of the exams could not be held due to the virus in 2020. The examiners were stumped after seeing the copy of a Class 10 boy, who had asked to be passed.

“Madam, I am brilliant in studies. Please pass me. Will you help me in being friends with your daughter? I will be the perfect match for her,” the Class 10 student added.

In one answer sheet for Class 10 mathematics exam, the examiners found a Google Pay number and the student had promised to transfer the money, if the examiner will contact him after seeing the answer sheet.

A girl student wrote, “Sir, please forgive me for the errors in small questions. I am like your daughter. Please pass me.”

The fun did not end here. A student had drawn a heart with an arrow through it and written: “Pyar kiya to darna kya. Master Ji ki marzi pass kare ya fail. Pass kra to bhi meharbani, na kare to bhi meharbani.”

A teacher, evaluating copies at Hisar centre, said a Class 10 student had written a Punjabi song ‘Heart beat’ in the answer sheet.

Board chairman Jagbir Singh said he came to know that some students had written weird messages in their answer books, but that does not mean the teachers will give them good marks.

“The examiners are evaluating the copies at allocated centres under CCTV surveillance,” he added.
