NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has barred a professor from entering its campus, following recommendations of varsity’s Gender Sensitisation Committee Against Sexual Harassment (GSCASH).

The professor who has been barred from the campus is Dr. Kaushik Roy, who is the head of department of History at Jadavpur University in Kolkata.

A research scholar had levelled charges of sexual harassment against Roy late last year. According to sources, the research scholar who has levelled charges against Roy is also an alumnus of Jadavpur University.

The complaint was filed against Roy when he had come to JNU to oversee research projects.

“As per the recommendations of GSCASH, we have acted. The JNU campus will now be out of bounds for professor Kaushik Roy,” said the JNU chief proctor.

GSCASH was a body set up in April 1999 and looks into all allegations of sexual harassment and conducts inquiry into them.

Roy is also an alumnus of JNU. He has completed his masters, Mphil and PhD from JNU in 1993, 1995 and 2000. He

specialises in Military History and counter-insurgency and published has many books on the same.

According to sources, a letter about the finding of the GSCASH has also been sent to Jadavpur University.

A daily newspaper in Kolkata had even claimed that Roy was asked to quit JU, following complaints from JNU.

The Jadavpur University website, however, still shows Roy continues to be the head of History department.

Hindustan Times could not contact Roy after repeated attempts.
