Police get hoax bomb blast call at Jama Masjid

-

NEW DELHI: A call about a bomb going off near Jama Masjid sent security agencies in a tizzy on Tuesday. The call was later declared as hoax, said police.

A man called the police control room on Tuesday evening, claiming that several people were injured in a blast near Jama Masjid. Police teams were rushed to the area but saw there was no blast. They cordoned off the area and took the help of sniffer dogs to check explosives.

“The caller said 50 people were injured in a blast,” DCP(PCR) RK Singh said.

The call was traced to Seelampur in northeast Delhi. The caller was identified as Chaudhary Bangad. “We will arrest him soon,” an officer said.

A day after the Independence Day, a hoax call about a bomb planted at Red Fort was received. The caller, Hanuman Singh, was arrested by the police from Alwar (Rajasthan) the next day. HTC
