Fake cop arrested in northwest Delhi

NEW DELHI: A 23-year-old man, who cheated people while impersonat­ing as a police officer, has been arrested from northwest Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

The accused, Haider Ali, was arrested Priyadarsh­ini Vihar Colony, while he was trying to cheat a man, said Vijay Singh, DCP (northwest).

Ali was nabbed after he tried to cheat one Ram Avtar Gupta who was returning to his house. Gupta said two men dressed in police uniforms approached him and advised him to keep his gold chain and ‘Kada’ in their custody since there had been a rise in the number of robbery incidents in the area.

Gupta sensed foul play and raised an alarm after the duo tried to make him forcibly hand over his belongings later and raised an alarm. A patrolling police team reached the spot and arrested Ali while his aide fled. PTI
