FOR DOWRY

NEW DELHI: Pro Kabaddi League player Rohit Kumar, who was arrested in his wife Lalita’s dowry death case, will be produced before a magistrate on Sunday. Kumar, who was arrested from Mumbai by a Delhi police team, is being brought to the city by train.

Sources said that the train was delayed because of which the police team would reach the city only on Sunday morning.

Kumar was arrested on Friday, four days after his wife committed suicide at her father’s house in Nangloi.

DCP (west) Vijay Kumar said the police would request the court for police custody of the accused.

“We will produce him before a duty magistrate and ask custody for his interrogation,” Kumar said.

Police are yet to arrest Rohit’s mother who has also been accused of beating and harassing Lalita for dowry. Roohit’s father surrendered at the Nangloi police station on Friday morning.

Meanwhile, investigating officers said they are probing the case on the basis of audio recording that Lalita left on her mobile phone before hanging herself at her father’s house.

According to an audio tape, Lalita’s father shared with HT - a copy of which is with the police - Lalita has accused Rohit of beating and abusing her.

“….I had only asked you to take me out for a movie. You returned home and banged the door. I pressed your chest wondering what was wrong but you punched me hard. You thrashed me and hurled abuses at me. You also broke the air-conditioner that day,” she is heard saying in the tape.

Police said that they will send the audio tape and Lalita’s suicide note for forensic examination.
