Students calls for wider protests over missing JNU youth
We demand that a highlevel team be constituted with proper mandate and logistical support by the ministry to search and locate Najeeb.
NEW DELHI: The demand to trace Najeeb Ahmed, a Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student missing since the last eight days, resonated in Delhi University (DU) on Saturday.
The protest led by the All India Students Association (AISA) at DU announced that a national protest day will be observed on October 24 demanding justice for Najeeb.
A group of JNU students had been detained while trying to protest in front of ministry of home affairs on Friday.
Ahmed, an MSc student at JNU, disappeared from the campus after an alleged altercation with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), student wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Alleging inaction by the JNU administration, students on Wednesday restricted the vicechancellor (V-C) and other officials to the administrative building.
The protest continued in Jawaharlal Nehru Universityas well demanding action from the administration to get back Ahmed safely to the campus.
“We demand that a high-level team be constituted with proper mandate and logistical support by the ministry to search and locate Najeeb. We also want the JNU administration to take action and punish ABVP activists who beat up and abused Najeeb,” said Sunny Kumar, an AISA leader.
