NEW DELHI: Two men, allegedly involved in a murder case, were arrested on Friday by the Delhi Police.

Sanjay Walia (38) and Rakesh Sharma (55) allegedly murdered Dayaram (70), who was in the business of money lending at high rates. Walia and Sharma are property dealers. Walia lives in Najafgarh and Sharma lives in Dwarka sector-1.

“Walia took a loan of ₹ 4 lakh from Dayaram. The latter sought sexual favours from Walia’s wife in lieu of the debt. Hence, Walia conspired the murder of Dayaram with his friend Rakesh, alias, Tittu,” said a senior police officer.

Walia, who was Dayaram’s tenant, reportedly took him to Chander Vihar Nala road in Vikaspuri, allegedly on the pretext of providing him prostitutes. Sharma also went with them. All three were in Walia’s car at the time of the incident.

“On reaching the road, Walia and Sharma forced Dayaram out of the car. Walia murdered Dayaram by beating him repeatedly with stones and bricks. Both accused left Walia’s body on roadside and fled in the car. A passerby who saw the body made a PCR call and informed police,” said a senior police officer.

A case under section 302 (murder) of the IPC was registered at the Vikaspuri police station. Police arrested Walia and Sharma during interrogation.

“During enquiry, it was learnt that the body was of Dayaram, who lived in Najafgarh. Those persons who saw him last were called for questioning. Based on the information we received, Walia and Sharma were arrested. The vehicle used in the offence and blood stained clothes of both accused have been recovered,” the officer said.
