NEWDELHI: A day after 20-year-old Savita died under mysterious circumstances at a water park in Kalindi Kunj on Saturday, her family alleged that she was either pushed into the pool or her body was thrown into it after murder.

The family demanded that the police should probe the case for murder as the reasons given to them by officials about her death were not believable.

“We were told that Savita died because she got stuck inside the slide tube at the park. There was excessive flow of water causing asphyxia. This is unbelievable and the police should thoroughly investigate the matter,” said Sarita, sister of the victim.

It was Savita’s first trip with NGO Aasra, where she had enrolled five months back to learn the art of tailoring and designing.

Her mother Raj Kumari, 51, who works as domestic help in Uttam Nagar had asked her not to go for the trip. However, Savita convinced her mother and left for the trip with other candidates of the NGO on Saturday.

Later in the afternoon, her family members in JJ Colony of Uttam Nagar were informed of her death. The family is in shock.

“I had told her not to go for the trip, but she convinced me. Later in the afternoon, we were informed that she died at the water park,” said Raj Kumari.

Savita has three siblings. Her father Babu Lal died last year after prolonged illness. The family lives in a single room rented accommodation.

Savita was pursuing graduation in Political Science through correspondence from Delhi University. She had joined the NGO to support her family.

The police have filed a case of causing death by negligence and further investigation is on.
