NEW DELHI: As many as ten passengers had a narrow escape when a DTC bus in which they were travelling in caught fire on Najafgarh-Nangloi Road on Monday morning.

Fire officials said they received a call at 6.53am about the incident after which two fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the flames.

They said the driver of the bus on seeing smoke billowing out of front side asked passengers to get down. The reason of fire couldn’t be ascertained, officials added.

The bus was on its way to Dichayun from west Delhi’s Nangloi, when it reached Bani Camp in Najafgarh and the driver saw the smoke. Passengers inside the bus were labourers, who were going for work.

Fire spread rapidly and when fire tenders reached the spot, the fire had already gutted the bus. They brought the fire under control.

Police said that traffic movement on the road remained disrupted for half an hour till the rescue operation was completed.
