Platinum Jubilee celebratio­ns at St Columba’s

St. Columba’s School, Ashok Place, celebrated its Platinum Jubilee with a musical night 2016. School bands from St. Columba’s and Amity Internatio­nal School, Mayur Vihar set the tone for the evening with their outstandin­g performanc­es. Well-known DJs like Bangloud, Mindbass and Doctor Daniel played some electrifyi­ng EDM music and the popular boy-band, PAN!C became instant favourites. Finally, the most awaited DJ for the evening, Candice Redding mesmerised the audience with her scintillat­ing music. Principal, Br. E.V. Miranda proposed the vote of thanks.

Modern School, Barakhamba Road, hosted the 28th Annual Inter-School Tech Symposium ‘ACCESS 2016’. It is one of the largest symposiums in Delhi and was organised by the school’s “Bits ‘n Bytes” club. Principal, Dr. Vijay Datta, welcomed the guests of honour, Prof. Suneet Tuli and Rajiv Makhni, who later interacted with the students in an inspiring session. Dr. Datta also stated that in today’s fast paced world it is very important to be computer savvy. The event witnessed some brilliant display of skills in areas such as technology, programmin­g, digital imaging, web designing, 3D modelling, robotics etc. In all, the fest was a grand success which would not have been possible without the support of Gautam Sarkar, Divya Sahdev and Pravesh Sharma.

The lawns of India Gate were also packed with people since afternoon, and the rush only increased by evening. “By 7 pm, all the parking lots here were filled with vehicles. It was so bad that people were finding it hard to take their cars out,” a traffic constable said.

Traffic officials said it was the first time crowds of such magnitude had descended on commercial and tourist spots ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the demonetisa­tion announceme­nt on November 8. “Crowds have generally been thin for the last one month. We were expecting a New Year rush, but not so much,” said a senior Delhi Traffic Police officer.

The traffic jams also spilled onto other parts of the city, including busy stretches such as Dhaula Kuan, Nizamuddin, Sardar Patel Marg, Rao Tula Ram Marg, Chirag Dilli, Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar and Naraina.

Anubhuti Mishra, a 43-yearold resident of CR Park, said she went to CP to have dinner with her family but returned because of the rush.

“It took us around an hour to reach CP, but when we did, we could not find any parking space. We drove around the place for a while, and then decided to call it day,” she added. the SPC MACAY festival recently. The fest was graced by Padma Shri and renowned Odissi dancer, Geeta Mahalik, who mesmerised the students with her brilliant performanc­e. She was accompanie­d by Prashant Maharana on pakhawaj, Afzal Zahoor Ahmed on violin along with vocalist Prashant Kumar Behera. Through her performanc­e she explained the different aspects of Odissi dance. In all, the event was a grand success and appreciate­d by all.

Ahlcon Internatio­nal School, Mayur Vihar, presented its two day annual exhibition 2016-17 titled ‘SAJAG NAGRIK: SAMRIDHH SAMAJ’ with immense pride and grandeur. The exhibition was inspired by the 17 Sustainabl­e Developmen­t Goals (SDGs) laid out by the United Nations in its Agenda 2030. On the first day, Chief Guest, Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi and Guest of Honour, Rajiv Chandran, the National Informatio­n Officer at United Nations Informatio­n Centre graced the occasion. The second day was marked by the presence of Chanchal Yadav, Secretary of New Delhi Municipal Corporatio­n as Chief Guest. In his welcome address, Principal, Ashok Kumar Pandey, shared his elation about the effort invested by the students in their understand­ing of the SDGs. While Chairperso­n, Dr. Rohini Ahluwalia asserted on the importance of parenting in a child’s personalit­y developmen­t.
