NEWDELHI:A Delhi court on Saturday has reserved the decision for Monday to grant bail to Tariq Ahmad Dar in a money laundering case related to 2005 Delhi serial bomb blasts.

Dar has been found guilty of funding the blasts that rocked Paharganj, Sarojini Nagar and Govindpuri, on October 29, 2005, that killed at least 67 people and left over 225 others injured.

Dar’s counsel Satish Tamta expressed confidence that Dar would not have to stay in Tihar jail for long, as the maximum punishment under Prevention of Money Laundering Act is seven years.

He has already served more than 11 years behind bars, after his arrest in the case. In this case, however, the court issued production warrant on September 26, 2011.

The Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) case was filed in 2008 alleging that Dar received foreign funding for carrying out terrorist activities, Tamta said.

Public prosecutor Navin Mata said that they have opposed the bail argument as the offences under PMLA are independent in which the accused has to prove his innocence.

Dar has been accused of receiving ₹68 lakh in his account from different sources.

Meanwhile, the court convicted Tariq Ahmed Dar on Friday for the offence punishable under Section 38 (being the member of a terror organisation) and Section 39 (giving support to such outfit) of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), but did not find any conclusive evidence regarding his role in the blasts.
