An 18-year-old woman was allegedly stoned to death by her jilted lover in Chirkunda, about 20 km from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. The victim, identified as Ruby, has been missing since Wednesday. Her body was found in a sack on Friday.

Ruby had been in a relationship with Manish Yadav of Vivekanad colony, Chirkunda for some time. Police said, Manish revealed in interrogation after he was arrested that he was aggrieved over the fact that she was to marry somebody else.

Reportedly, he called Ruby to a place where they would usually meet on Wednesday and murdered her.

Chirkunda PS - in-charge Inspector Niranjan Kumar said Manish first tried to stab her but later stoned her to death and then crushed her face in an attempt to wipe away her identity.

Ruby’s parents didn’t inform police of their missing daughter fearing a social backlash. Police revealed they were trying to get her married to someone from their own caste and knew about Ruby’s relationship with Manish.

This infuriated Manish and he decided to kill her. “if I cannot marry Ruby , no one other would be allowed” he reportedly said.

A case has been instituted against Manish on basis of complaint filed by Lalan Kumar. Police also recovered the knife and the blood stained stone from the spot.

A day after he lamented that the government has failed to attend to the issue of farmers’ suicides, RSS ideologue Dattatreya Hosabale sought to clarify his stance on Saturday, saying he was making the reference to the previous UPA regime.

“I questioned the economic policy of pursued by previous governments. How can the present government be responsible for farmers’ suicide?” he said.

Addressing an economic conclave on Friday, Hosabale had parsed the economic policies followed so far and said the government’s response to famer suicides in the past decade was not enough. HTC
