Over the weekend, commuters in Delhi-NCR had some respite when they were able to book rides after facing a massive crunch over the past 10 days. Cabs were available on Ola and Uber’s apps throughout Sunday in the national capital.

“We are now fully operational in Delhi-NCR,” Ola said in a notification to its customers on Sunday.

Last Monday, commuters faced a harrowing time with cabs going off the roads while autorickshaw drivers resorted to fleecing them. Even the metro had recorded a 6% increase in its ridership.

But fares continued to be higher than normal during morning hours. “The waiting time for booking a ride is far longer than the usual duration. But, I did get a cab finally after trying for nearly a week,” said Amit Nath, a resident of Uttam Nagar.

However, the striking union of Ola and Uber drivers is refusing to relent. Sarvodaya Drivers Association of Delhi (SDAD), which claims to represent 1.5 lakh drivers in Delhi-NCR, said although around 70% of cabs plied on Saturday morning, a majority of drivers were off the capital’s roads in the evening.
