Punjab Warriors beat UP Wizards but fail to qualify for HIL semifinals
NEWDELHI: Defending champions Jaypee Punjab Warriors eked out a close 1-0 win over Uttar Pradesh Wizards but still failed to qualify for the semifinals of the fifth edition of the Hockey India League. Mink van der Weerden scored th lone goal of the match, successfully converting a penalty corner in the 35th minute of the match.
It was the first in the history of HIL, Punjab Warriors failed to qualify for the last four round.
TEHRAN: Grandmaster Dronavalli Harika made it to the quarterfinals of World Women’s Chess Championship after defeating Sopiko Guramishvili of Georgia 3.5-2.5 in the second set of tie-break games here. Harika dominated the proceedings in the rapid games .
AIZAWL: Aizawl FC ended East Bengal’s unbeaten run in the I-League with a solitary goal win in a 10th round match here on Monday. R Laldanmawia struck in the 58th minute to hand Aizawl three points. With the win, Aizawl rose to 20 points, one point shy of joint leaders East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.
KOLKATA: India head coach Stephen Constantine joined preparations for the under-17 World Cup by joining the boys in Goa on Monday. Constantine tweeted a picture of talking to the under-17 boys. There has been no official release from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) about Constantine helping the squad.
CHANDIGARH: The duo of Sidhartha Santosh and Lokesh Shivaraja of the Bangalore Off-Roaders team won the JK Tyre Xtreme 4Play championship. They garnered 455 points to underline their driving skills in tough terrain. This is the second time the BODA team led by Sidhartha and Lokesh have won a JK title.
