Former BJP MLA Vijay Jolly booked for rape in Ggn hotel

GURGAON:Senior BJP leader and former Saket MLA, Vijay Jolly, was booked for allegedly raping a party functionary during a meeting in Gurgaon on February 10. A case was registered on Tuesday after the woman and her husband filed a complaint against Jolly at the Gurgaon women’s police station in sector 51.

The woman alleged that the MLA raped her at a hotel on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway.

However, Gurgaon police was tight-lipped about the incident. A senior officer confirmed that a complaint against the former MLA had been registered, but refused to share the details.

Jolly said he had come to know that a case had been filed against him. He denied the charge saying it was fabricated. He accused the couple of extortion saying, “I got a case regis- tered against them on February 17 for demanding money from me. The case was filed at Kherki Daula police station.”

The woman, in her complaint, said the former MLA rang her up and asked her to visit the hotel on the pretext of a meeting on the night of February 10. She claimed during the meeting she was served a cold drink laced with drugs. She alleged she was raped after she fell unconscious. In the complaint, the couple said they had known the former MLA for the last three-four years.

The woman claimed when she regained consciousness and brought up the alleged abuse with Jolly at around 4am, he threatened her with dire consequences.

She said she narrated the ordeal to her husband after reaching home, but they initially couldn’t muster up the courage to go the police as they were wary of Jolly’s clout. However, the victim and her husband, both BJP workers in the Saket area, eventually lodged a complaint.

However, Jolly claimed he was falsely implicated after refusing to yield to the couple’s extortion claim. “I was at the hotel for a meeting and didn’t commit any crime. The couple demanded ₹15 lakh and even threatened me when I refused. They later raised their demand to ₹50 lakh,” Jolly said.

On February 17, Jolly met a top Gurgaon police officer claiming that the couple was blackmailing him. He said he was forced to lodge a complaint after the couple threatened to defame him and destroy his image if he refused to pay them.
