NEW DELHI: A 37-year-old man killed his girlfriend in a fit of rage on Saturday morning. Police said the accused, Jorson Samual, a cab driver, slit his own wrist and informed the police control room when he realised that the woman had died.

Investigations revealed Samual was booked in a rape case earlier, at the Fatehpur Beri police station in south Delhi and had been declared a proclaimed offender in the case.

A proclaimed offender is one who is declared absconding in a case and has not turned up for his/her court hearing.

According to police, the woman Neeru Singh,35, was in a live-in relationship with Samual for over a year.

About two months ago, she had left Samual and returned to her first husband. On Saturday morning, she came to Samual’s house in Dabri, south west Delhi to pick up her belongings when she had an argument with him.

“When they had an argument Neeru’s husband called her on her cell phone, which Samual answered. Neeru’s husband was furious when Samual answered the call and quarrelled with Samual. In a fit of rage, Samual used a shawl to strangle her. He slit his wrist and called the police,” said DCP south west Surender Kumar.

Police said they arrested Samual and registered a case of murder against him.
