THE POLICE FOUND THE WOMAN’S BODY ALONG WITH THE SKELETAL REMAINS AFTER PEOPLE COMPLAINED OF STENCH EMANATING FROM THE HOUSE

AgRA : The Agra police on Saturday stumbled upon a rare case where a woman — who was found dead at her residence near Arjun Nagar crossing — was believed to be living with the skeletal remains of her mother for several months.

The case came to light after neighbours complained of stench emanating from the house and approached the police who found the body of the woman along with the skeletal remains, believed to be that of her mother’s.

Police said that the house is owned by one Virendra Singh who resides in Kagarol. A widow, who was a nurse by profession, used to stay in the house along with her daughter. Not much was known about both as they avoided the locals, they added.

For the past couple of days, the neighbours had been complaining of foul smell and suspected that the house had not been opened for days.

As the stench became unbearable, they called the police who on searching the house found skeletal remains of a human being beside a body, identified as that of Veena Agarwal, aged about 55 years.

Neeraj Sharma, in charge of Shahganj police station, said, “The neighbours could not reveal much but it was learnt that Veena was not in a proper frame of mind and had been living with the skeletal remains of her mother who must have died about five to six months ago.”

He added, “Prima facie, it appears that Veena might have died two or three days ago. The body appeared to have been bitten by rats and was decayed. Her mother used to work as a nurse but was not seen for the past six months.”

Sharma said that the forensic experts were called to the spot and the body was sent for post mortem. “We cannot rule out the possibility of Veena living with the remains of her mother believed to have died six months ago,” he said.

Police said there was no power connection in the house and the house was in a shabby condition.

Police were finding it difficult to investigate the matter as there was no relative who could reveal their details .
