Being a humanities student I understand the meaning of dissent, which ABVP doesn’t. I was a part of protests last year so I came this time too.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) have called another protest on March 2.

The march, they said, was for bringing back peace in Delhi University and to show to the Left-leaning organisations that they (DUSU and ABVP) have the support of students.

As other students marched with the slogan #DUFightBack on Tuesday, the ABVP in a press conference said they were being wrongly blamed for the violence of February 21 and 22 at Ramjas College.

“DU has been peaceful because ABVP has dominated the campus. But now we are being wrongly accused of indulging in violence. The violence on February 22 happened because there were aggressors of the Left who had come from outside,” said Saket Bahuguna, ABVP national media convener.

The DUSU had on Monday held a Tiranga March on the campus.

Bahuguna said that even on Tuesday, Left-leaning students and teachers brought ‘outsiders’ who were not from DU.

“We want to clarify the protest against the seminar was by the elected student members of Ramjas. It was they who invited DUSU, which joined them in protesting against the invitation to someone who talks about breaking India. We had a problem only with Umar Khalid coming to the event and not against the seminar. A few students and teachers of the Left started saying their freedom of speech and expression was being curbed,” said Amit Tanwar, DUSU president.

Tanwar showed videos of DHARAMSHALA: Dr. NK Kalia, father of Kargil martyr captain Saurabh Kalia on Tuesday came out in support of Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur, who has allegedly received rape threats over her social media campaign against ABVP.

The retired scientist, however, said “he disagrees with her viewpoint”.

“I strongly condemn the way she was targeted on social media. This is shameful. This is not our culture,” said Dr. Kalia, who is fighting for justice for his slain son.

Captain Saurabh Kalia was tortured and killed in captivity along with his five comrades by Pakistan forces during the 1999 Kargil conflict.

teachers and students purported ly raising azaadi slogans and said they would continue to fight against those who attack the integrity of India.

Talking about Gurmehar Kaur, who alleged receiving rape threats, Bahuguna said they themselves went forward and filed a complaint with the police.

The police said it was a statement from the organisation.
