The robbers stayed at the home for almost two hours before fleeing with cash and other valuables. The victims later managed to alert their neighbours who informed the police.

NEWDELHI: A 52-year-old woman and her daughter-in-law have alleged that they were bound, gagged and assaulted by two men who barged into their home in East Delhi’s Jagatpuri on Monday night.

The victims have been identified as Raunak Afroz and her daughter-in-law, Fareeha. The family lives in Jagatpuri with Fareeha’s husband and their two children.

Afroz alleged that she lost three teeth as the robbers punched her repeatedly and also attacked her with a knife. However she escaped without serious cut injuries, said police.

It was late evening on Monday when two robbers allegedly barged into the house. Fareeha’s husband and kids had gone out and the two women were alone in the house. The robbers tied Afroz and gagged her before allegedly punching her repeatedly. They also tied Fareeha.

They beat up Fareeha and threatened her with dire consequences if she would not tell them where valuables and cash are kept in the house.

The robbers then asked the two women that they hand over them to the cupboard keys and hand over ₹70,000 cash they had recently received from someone.

When Afroz refused to oblige, one of the assailants allegedly attacked her hand with a knife, intermittently threatening to kill her grandchildren.

“The robbers stayed at the home for almost two hours before decamping with the cash and other valuables. The victims later managed to alert their neighbours who untied them and informed the police,” said a police officer.

Investigators said they have registered a case of robbery and assault, but were probing the allegations made by the women as they have allegedly changed their statements repeatedly.
