A DINNER THAT COST HIM HIS LIFE

men gunned down a 29-year-old property broker inside a parked car behind V3S Mall in east Delhi’s Preet Vihar around 2am on Friday.

The deceased, Vishal Suri, and his two friends had parked their car behind the mall to have dinner when the murder happened.

While Suri’s friends walked to a parantha joint near the mall to buy dinner, Suri had stayed behind in the white Swift car.

Soon after his friends left, another Swift car pulled over next to the one in which Suri was seated. The two occupants of the car allegedly got off their vehicle and entered in a verbal duel with Suri for a few seconds before pulling out pistols and firing several rounds at him.

They then drove away unchallenged, even as Suri collapsed on the back seat of the car with three bullet injuries in his chest and abdomen.By the time his friends rushed to his aide, Suri had collapsed. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.

Meanwhile, one of the bystanders had called the police who visited the crime spot and lifted samples for forensic examination. They registered a murder case on the statements of Suri’s friends and formed two teams to crack the crime.

By late Friday afternoon, police identified one of the assailants as Nishant, a resident of Geeta Colony in east Delhi. The CCTV footage of the Swift car, in which the killers had arrived, helped identify him. The two killers, however, remained on the run till late Friday.

Omvir Singh, DCP (east), said a background check on Suri and the identified killer has revealed that both had past criminal cases, including attempt to murder and robbery.

Hailing from east Delhi areas like Geeta Colony and Rani Garden, the two groups were allegedly involved in a long-standing rivalry that had its roots in monetary disputes. They had even assaulted each other’s family members in the past.

But the trigger for the murder was a clash between Suri and the identified suspect, Nishant, in Geeta Colony on Thursday afternoon. While the two men and their friends were separated by the public, they had allegedly warned each other of dire consequences.
