AAP launches survey, campaign
As part of its MCD election campaign, the Aam Aadmi Party has started a survey across the city, with the twin aim of gauging people’s mood and reminding the electorate about the ‘failures’ of the BJP-ruled MCDs and ‘achievements’ of the Arvind Kejriwal government.
Besides straight questions — like which party are the respondents likely to vote for in the April 23 municipal elections — the 12-point questionnaire being used in the survey includes questions such as people’s knowledge about the key responsibilities of the MCDs.
Sample these: Do you know who is responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the city, BJPruled MCDs or the Kejriwal government? Another question reads ‘Do you think the BJP and Congress have over the past two decades converted the city into a garbage dump?’.
The nature of questions is similar to the underlining theme of the video campaign of Arvind Kejriwal.
AAP leaders said the questionnaire in a way was a “campaign through survey”.
“The questionnaire is carried by the party volunteers during their door-to-door campaign. While it helps in communicating the party’s message, it also helps in understanding the opinion of the people and their mood,” a senior party leader said.
The party has been conducting door-to-door campaign for the past fortnight, with teams being led by councillors and party legislators separately.
Till now, AAP has announced candidates on 268 out of 272 municipal seats across North, South and East Delhi municipal corporations. In fact, the first list of candidates was announced on February 20 and names of about 248 candidates were announced by March 11, three days before the state election commission announced the poll dates.
The party on Thursday changed its candidates for 14 municipal seats with party leaders refusing to share the reasons behind the decision to replace candidates saying “it was an in-principle agreement not to share what led to it”.
