Vivek and his friends were returning home after watching a movie at around 11.30 pm, when the car hit him. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

A final year BTech student of Amity University died after he was run over by a Honda City car, which dragged him for 200 feet near Sector 18 in Noida on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Vivek Kumar, 21, who was staying in a paying guest accommodation at Sector 126. He originally hailed from Mangalgiri in Gunture district of Andhra Pradesh. The police identified the driver of the car as Apoorv, 32, a resident of Sector 66 in Noida, who worked as an engineer with HCL Technologies.

“Vivek and his friends were headed towards their residence after watching a movie at Sector 18 at around 11.30 pm, when the car hit him. The student received severe head injuries and succumbed on the spot,” said investigating officer Dharmendra Singh.

According to police, the driver, Apoorv, was reversing the vehicle, when it hit the student. In his attempt to escape after the incident, Apoorv allegedly rammed into an SUV and also dragged Vivek up to 200 feet before being intercepted and nabbed by locals.

“Apoorv said he did not notice the student behind the car. We have arrested him and a case has been registered against him. The body of Kumar has been sent for post-mortem and his parents have been informed about the accident,” Singh said.
