Goel slams AAP govt over claims of tax rebate to family property

-

Union minister Vijay Goel attacked the AAP government on Thursday over the issue of waiving property tax for his heritage property on Thursday. Goel clarified that the North Delhi Municipal Corporation has exempted all the heritage properties from tax and not just the one belonging to his family.

He said the initiative was taken after the notification of the Delhi government, last year. “The decision was taken by the Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation which is headed by Deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia. While the list of heritage sites was approved by a committee comprising of members from Archaeological Survey of India, Urban development ministry and others. In simple words, the BJP has nothing to do with the issue and AAP leaders are giving illogical statements,” he said.

On Wednesday, Sisodia supported chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s announcement to waive off the house tax if AAP wins elections and stated that if the municipal bodies can waive the tax for a Union minister, it can provide the same benefit to common citizens as well.

“Last year the North MCD had waived off the residential house tax of a haveli owned by Union Minister Vijay Goel. The decision was taken under rule 177 of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act (1957). The act allows municipal bodies to exempt any tax that the MCDs decide does not need to be levied,” Sisodia had said.

Goel also blamed the AAP government for misleading public by announcing rebates ahead of elections. HTC
