BCCI doesn’t need CoA nod to call SGM: Vinod Rai
head of Committee of Administrators (CoA) Vinod Rai made it clear that the BCCI officials don’t need their approval to convene a Special General Meeting (SGM).
“They (BCCI) don’t need CoA approval to call Special General Meeting (SGM) but yes they have to keep us in the loop. Also the decisions taken at SGM do not need any ratification of CoA per se but if there is any deviation from SC diktat, the COA steps in,” former CAG Rai said after IPL Governing Council meeting.
The BCCI officials announced that the SGM will be held as per schedule on April 9.
Rajeev Shukla chaired the IPL Governing Council meeting on Thursday and Rai said that he continues to remain the IPL chairman. “Mr Shukla is not disqualified as per Supreme Court order. Also the earlier governing council exists. It was Mr Shukla who chaired the meeting,” Rai clarified. Among the IPL GC members, PV Shetty, Sourav Ganguly, CK Khanna, Aniruddh Chaudhary were present in person. Amitabh Chaudhary attended via tele conference.
The Governing Council decided that Mumbai will host a playoff as their playoff last year was shifted due to drought situation.
The Governing Council also decided to felicitate five legends -Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman and Virender Sehwag, during the IPL opening ceremony.
The Committee of Administrators (CoA) agreed to release funds to state associations immediately for the IPL games. While half of the R60 lakh is played by franchises upfront, the remaining half is paid by BCCI after the end of the league. However, CoA will release the BCCI funds much earlier.
