Delhi chief minister AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal was taken by surprise when the crowds at one of his public meetings organised at Gautam Vihar in Ghonda started chanting “Modi-Modi” slogans.

Hearing the chants, Kejriwal asked if the Prime Minister would provide them the same benefits if voted back to power in the municipal elections.

“Ask them if shouting Modi Modi will help abolish your house tax, then I will also chant his name. Did Modi reduce your electricity rates? Modi Modi karne se pet nahi bharta (Shouting Modi Modi will not fill your stomachs),” he said.

Ironically, a part of the stage broke down while the CM was addressing the public.

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday held two public meetings to campaign for the municipal polls during which he reiterated his party’s promise of exempting house tax.

The second public meeting was held meeting in Kanti Nagar near Gandhinagar in east Delhi.

Kejriwal, whose party promised free water and reduced power tariffs during the 2015 assembly elections, has promised a house tax exemption in 2017 municipal polls.

He also warned people that they might lose the free water and electricity provided by his government if either the BJP or Congress came to power.

“Three-four days ago a BJP leader met me. He said a conspiracy is going on. The leader told me that if Congress or BJP come to power they will increase the rate for water and electricity and shift the departments to the MCD,” Kejriwal said while addressing a public meeting in Kanti Nagar near Gandhinagar in east Delhi.

“The power companies are putting pressure on the Centre to increase rates,” he added.
